Wawel Hill is closely related to Stanisław Wyspiański’s work. It was depicted in the painting “Planty z widokiem na Wawel” and in his plays “Akropolis”, “Skałka”, “Bolesław Śmiały” and “Wyzwolenie”.
Wyspiański together with the architect Władysław Ekielski was also a co-originator of an unfinished project to develop the hill after the Austrian army left it in 1903. His illness and death shattered Wyspiański’s plan. His plans were to turn Wawel into a Polish Acropolis.
